Dr. Henry Kissinger makes an interesting observation about these two countries:
Both United States and China think of themselves as universal types of institutions. America thinks our values are relevant to the rest of the world and that we have a right, indeed, a necessity to convert everybody to our view of the world and to measure others by how willing they are too.
The Chinese don't believe in conversion. You can't really become a Chinese. That's not possible. But they do believe they represent a stature of civilization that is unique and so they react badly to lectures about how they should modify themselves.
